From Startup to Global Player
It all started in 2008 during the worldwide financial crisis. At that time we began to deal intensively with the economic situation at hand and the possibilities of shopping sensibly while saving money.
Webgears was founded in early 2010 in Götzis, Austria. One of our first projects was the bargain blog Preisjäger (Price Hunter).
Launch of Gutscheinsammler.de, which focussed on voucher codes to provide a service to be used by a wide range of users. Gutscheinsammler.de was able to become a leading voucher code service within a short amount of time.
Opening of our branch office in Berlin.
In April 2013, we launched Voucherbox.co.uk in the United Kingdom. Within a short time, Voucherbox.co.uk was able to establish itself in the highly competitive British market, becoming one of the top 3 couponing providers and gaining an enormous growth in just one year.
In October 2014 we expanded into the US and launched Couponbox.com.
At the end of 2014, we established a partnership with HUKD.co.uk, the number one destination for bargain deals in the UK.
In late 2015 we built a partnership with ComputerBild and entered two new Markets – France (Mapromobox.fr) and the Netherlands (Kortingbox.nl).
In April 2016 we continued our successful expansion and launched new couponing portals in Australia (Couponbox.com.au), Canada (Couponbox.ca), India (Couponbox.in), Italy (Scontobox.it) and Spain (Cuponbox.es).
From a young age Alex discovered his passion for computers, growing even stronger over the years. As a teenager he spent countless hours per day developing computer games and more or less meaningful applications. Later on he met Daniel and Tobias at his former employer’s. They got Tobias to come along for the ride and the three of them were an unbeatable team. Shortly afterwards, the idea of Preisjäger (Price Hunter) was born, laying the cornerstone for Webgears GmbH.
At Webgears Alex is chiefly responsible for developing. He continues to develop his own and others’ ideas passionately, continuously refining and perfecting them.
While other children were playing Anno 1602 on their PCs, Daniel was already building his first website, offering downloads of great wallpapers and homework. Daniel quickly became the best-kept secret at school and his classmates are still grateful to him to this day that they didn’t have to sit at home for hours doing their homework.
At Webgears GmbH the CEO is the contact for all marketing activities. SEO (search engine optimization) is one of his great passions, which is why he follows the daily changes in our ranking portals every morning in bed in order to always be up to date. In the office, he is also responsible for the Human Resources and Office Management departments.
Even from an early age Tobias dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur one day and developed intellectually promising business ideas. The more creative and unusual the ideas were, the better. Along with Alex and Daniel, Tobias developed the idea for Webgears GmbH, laying the foundation for an internationally successful company.
At Webgears GmbH, Tobias is responsible for Product Management, Business Development and for all the company’s financial and fiscal agendas. Tobias is passionate about innovation, new trends and business models – both online as well as offline. His family is a haven for Tobias, where he can relax and recharge his batteries.
At Webgears, we put great emphasis on understanding our users and their needs, in order to offer the best possible user experience on the market. This is why we constantly analyze user behavior and conduct surveys to improve the quality of all our products.
